Warren H. Williams & Dani Young
Desert Water

Acclaimed artist Warren H Williams teams up with rising star Dani Young to collaborate on the stunning new album,

"Desert Water". The album is the first musical union of an indigenous and non-indigenous singing duo recorded in the country music capital, Nashville.

Mr Williams is from the remote community of Ntaria or Hermannsburg in Central Australia, and Ms Young is from Sydney.

Country music was not exactly a shared interest when the two met while working at CAAMA radio in Alice Springs, Mr Williams said. "Well, it wasn't a really shared one because I had to tell her that she was singing the wrong genre," he said.

Ms Young said when he said that to her she was singing pub rock. "I was experimenting with jazz and Warren heard me singing Flame Trees by Cold Chisel and just went, 'Nah, you need to try this' and gave me Loretta Lynn, he gave me Emmylou Harris, LeAnn Rimes," she said.

"'Listen to these ladies, now tell me, do you think that's you?' And it was."

Ms Young said she had had a false start into country music about 10 years ago. "I actually had a go at country when I was younger because my grandfather lived in Tamworth, so when I was about 12 or 13, I went up to the Country Music Festival, learnt a couple of songs, Delta Dawn, that sort of thing, had a busk, had a sing," she said.

"And then when Warren showed me, he gave me a real education in country music and I realised, oh, country music is actually great.

"And it's definitely something that I could see myself doing."

Together they wrote a collection of songs and went to Nashville to record them. Ms Young said that they "had the right voices for each other".
